Stay at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp
Set on a flat ridge, deep within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is a remote and atmospheric mountain sanctuary. The only accommodation located within the national park, the camp boasts an unrivalled location with exceptional wildlife and birdlife viewing opportunities. Eight tents feature queen-sized beds and generous bathtubs that look out onto the forest canopy.
Guests can sample delicious fare or enjoy an evening drink in the cosy bar and dining cottage overlooking the rainforest. In fine weather, meals are served al fresco on a raised natural platform that blends into the surroundings. A small gift shop offers a selection of locally sourced handcrafts. Forest walks to Munyaga Waterfall, as well as an interactive community visit are included, while gorilla trekking and birding walks can be arranged at an additional cost.
At Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp
Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp blends in sensitively with the dramatic African mountain landscape and, situated uniquely inside the national park, you are only minutes away from the start of your gorilla trekking adventure - a once in a lifetime encounter with Uganda’s endangered gorillas await when you stay in one of these only ten private luxury tents in the heart of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
The property feels more ‘safari-like’ as the main area is all open-plan, with a fire pit and a bar area tempting you in before dinner. The rooms are spacious and cosy, made from canvas and build in en-suite bathrooms and an outdoor bath. Overall a very nice property!
At Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp
The main area of the property is open-plan, with a lounge area, bar and restaurant designed to welcome you in. There is a garden area outside the lounge with a rounded fireplace to sit and enjoy a sundowner before your evening meal. The rooms are all located to the right of the main area along a stone pathway. The rooms are relatively close together – the vegetation makes it private but the sound travels.
Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp’s communal area stars a comfortable lounge with a well-stocked bar and elegant dining area, bestowing great views over the verdant rainforest. Come dusk, under star-strewn skies, and accompanied by the night-chorus, guests gather around the central campfire and swap stories of that day’s adventures. Mealtimes lend a taste of the destination: expertly prepared dishes promise simple flavours and showcase fresh local ingredients — try traditional smoked beef in peanut sauce served with Kalo (millet bread). Candlelit alfresco dining is also available on your tent’s private deck.
