Background

Located en route to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, the park is rich with diverse vegetation and wildlife. Boasting 11 different ecosystems, ranging from savannah to marshes to evergreen forests, Lake Manyara National Park ensures breathtaking views everywhere you turn.

Known for its elephants and tree-climbing lions, Lake Manyara is also excellent for flamingos and other fascinating birds in and around the soda lake. A Lake Manyara safari is a unique and fascinating experience, as the park offers vast ecological variety in a small area; featuring a ground-water forest, acacia tortilis woodland and hot springs called Maji Moto.

With its wide-ranging habitats, the park is home to some of the most spectacular wildlife. Visitors will be treated to sightings of enormous elephant herds, Cape buffalo, leopard, hippo, wildebeest, zebra, Masai giraffe, the world’s largest baboon troop as well as Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions. The flourishing birdlife is a sight to behold. With over 400 bird species, including pelicans, cormorants and storks, the most awe-inducing sighting has to be the millions of flamingo that flock to the shores of the Rift Valley soda lake during the rains.

Lake Manyara National Park offers spectacular scenery across its vast unspoilt vistas and over bush plains, steep cliffs and dense forests. For a one-of-a-kind experience, the 400m treetop canopy walk through the forest, a first for Tanzania, takes you 18m above ground to view the wildlife and nature from a unique perspective.
