At Bwindi Lodge
This attractive, low key lodge was one of the first to be built in the area and sits in a fantastic location, with uninterrupted views of Bwindi Forest.
The addition of a few coloured panes of glass in the walls allows plenty of sunlight into the large rooms, which all lead out to a small veranda at the front to soak up the fantastic views, best enjoyed with a cup of steaming coffee first thing in the morning.
The lodge’s restaurant and cosy fireside bar are on raised decks, also offering great views over the forest with the large outdoor patio perfect for soaking up the sun in between treks into the forest. In fact, the lodge is so good, that gorillas have even been known to pay a visit on occasion.
At Bwindi Lodge
The lodge sits on a large plot of land so all of the rooms, main area and spa are spread out across the gardens and pathways. The main area of the lodge is very inviting, with a large open-plan design comprising cosy sofas, a central fireplace, the restaurant area and then a garden and veranda area. The lodge has a lot of windows which are usually open, creating light and that sense of being in the middle of the forest.
Bwindi Lodge opened a bar in the centre of Bwindi Town which is was a community project to train people in the world of hospitality. The staff work here for a couple of years and then once they have finished their apprentice at Bwindi Bar, they will most likely become staff at the main lodge. Guests can walk between Bwindi Lodge and Bwindi Bar and all of the drinks are included if you are staying at the lodge. It is a lovely bar and community project, definitely worth visiting!
