At Buhoma Lodge
Buhoma Lodge is an intimate and comfortable forest retreat, idyllically located inside Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park where Uganda’s protected mountain gorillas freely roam. The focus of the Buhoma experience is on the gorilla trekking activity, which starts only minutes away from the lodge, but what is on offer adds so much value to being in this magnificent location. There are 10 elevated chalets positioned between the tall trees with balconies that look out into the canopies which are filled with birds and other forest wildlife. This lodge is truly submerged in the forest and invites guest to absorb the abundance of nature while being exceptionally well taken care of.
Buhoma’s location inside Bwindi means it is ideal for gorilla trekking, which is an incredible experience. Forest hikes to see the gorillas is very rewarding, but can take a full day if the gorillas are deep in the forest. Once guides have led guests to their designated gorilla family, the group will have an hour to spend watching and photographing them. The age limit on this activity is 15 years old. The gorillas may be the primary attraction of Bwindi, but Buhoma Lodge offers a variety of other wildlife, nature, and cultural activities that are well worth exploring. The forest has over 350 bird species, and 200 butterfly species, many of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift Valley. Hikes and trails with trained birding guides are available and involve up close sightings of other inhabitants, like monkeys. Visiting the local Batwa community offers insight into the lives of the original people of the forest.
