Stay at Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Set alongside Singita Sasakwa Lodge is Hillside Suite, a luxurious oversized Suite with private vehicle access. Here, guests can revel in endless views over the Serengeti and enjoy the barefoot beauty of a private escape for two. Dramatic frameless glass doors and windows, two wooden outdoor decks and a private rim-flow pool ensure continuous engagements with nature and this butler-serviced suite includes a private game vehicle, Field Guide, “bar-deli” and exclusive in-room dining.

From Sasakwa Hill, the eye is irresistibly drawn over the endless Serengeti plains below, to the blue hills in the distant horizon. Year-round, the area boasts an abundance of game and it is a very special experience to watch the animals scattered across the wide plains, or witness the spectacle of a rainbow after a welcome shower of rain.

Food quality: The food at Sasakwa Lodge is simply fantastic – what you would expect from a first class restaurant in Europe. The variety of the menu and quality of food is easily the best we have come across in Tanzania. Though some might also call it slightly over the top.

Breakfast was a huge buffet of cereals, fruits, yogurts, fresh bread and pancakes. There were also cheese platters and cold meat platters with ham, beef, salami and duck breast.

The Experience

Experience Singita Sasakwa Lodge

A sense of grandeur is woven throughout the turn-of-the-century manor house and private cottages through a blend of authentic European style and East African influences.

Built in the style of an English manor house, Sasakwa resembles a classic East African house of the colonial era. The main single storey building is vast – with wide sweeping verandas, stone columns and slate roofs. At the front is a red stone cobbled square and fountain, which is almost reminiscent of an Italian villa. From here you walk through into Sasakwa's main house, which faces onto wide lawns, manicured gardens and the spectacular view of the Sabora Plains. The entire main building is fronted by a wide shady veranda, furnished with wicker furniture and comfortable chairs. On a clear day you can see for miles – and during the migration when the plains are full of animals, it is quite a sight. Swarovski binoculars and telescopes are dotted around the property and you are free to use them for wildlife viewing from the lodge.

Sasakwa's drawing room is an impressive lounge and bar – with high ceilings, comfortable sofas and antique furniture. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling and there are plenty of comfortable sofas and leather armchairs to relax in. Antique-style wooden chests act as coffee tables and a grand piano sits in the corner. Neutral colours, dark wooden furniture and African art give this room an old-world feel with a stylish edge.

Adjacent to the drawing room is Sasakwa Lodge's billiard room, quite traditionally furnished and styled – with wood-panelled walls, a marble fireplace and 19th-century landscape paintings. In the corner of the room there is also a bridge table and chairs.

Activities

Things to do at Singita Sasakwa Lodge

  • Stargazing: There is perhaps no more transcendent experience than looking up at a full sky of sparkling stars. Man has had a love affair with the nighttime sky for centuries and with very little pollution and no city lights to detract for the stars, your view of the heavens here will be crystal clear – nothing between you and the vast African sky above.
  • Tennis: Experience a game of tennis as you never would have before. Enjoy your time on court whilst being surrounded by the beauty of the African wilderness. Cool down with rewarding refreshments and a dip in the nearby swimming pool
  • Antipoaching Observation Post: The Singita Grumeti Fund anti-poaching team is made up of 120 dedicated scouts. These scouts patrol the 350,000-acre private concession and are based in 12 scout camps and in 12 observation posts (OP) dotted across the reserve. Each OP is manned by two scouts who are constantly surveying the area for any unusual activity.
  • Swimming Pool: Singita Sasakwa Lodge offers an expansive swimming pool next to the main house in addition to private infinity pools at each cottage and at the private villa.
  • Spa: The Singita wellness philosophy creates an environment for our urban-weary guests to reconnect to nature, revive their senses, restore their body and mind, and explore our African culture.
  • Guided Safari Walks: Walking safaris are an incredible way to experience the bush up close and personal. Your expert guide and tracker will accompany you as you track animals on foot through the wilderness and explore the magnificent plants and landscapes around you.
  • Community Visits: Perhaps Africa’s greatest beauty is its people and, as part of Singita’s deep commitment to community development, guests are invited to visit the nearby communities. The Grumeti Fund Community Outreach Program works with residents of the 21 villages bordering Singita Grumeti to realise their development goals.
  • Game Drives: Daily game drives with professional guides provide the perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals, while evening drives reveal the elusive magic of nocturnal Africa.
