Olakira Camp
Immerse yourself in the Great Migration at Olakira Migration Camp. You’ll feel the earth vibrate during winter crossings of the brave wildebeest as they face the mighty rivers in the north, or be moved by the mass summer calving on the south’s grassy plains.
Olakira follows the massive herds of wildebeest to two spectacular locations in the north and south of the Serengeti National Park, as well as the Ndutu region. Home from December to March, is in the NCA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area), game drives cover both the NCA itself and the southern Serengeti, allowing for frequent sightings of big cats, elephant, buffalo and the more elusive African wild dog. As the dry days of winter arrive, Olakira relocates north to the confluence of the Mara and Bolongonja rivers for spectacular game viewing at the Mara River itself.

Stay at Olakira Camp
Olakira’s tents have been perfectly designed so that a portion of the tent boasts a 270-degree view from beneath a meshed net, offering you an outdoor experience whilst still remaining indoors. The stargazing tents allow you the flexibility to roll your bed into the meshed area for a magical experience of sleeping beneath the stars. With the galaxies glittering above you while you dream about the day’s adventures – it truly is an experience that you don’t want to miss out on.
Fine linens, fine dining and a touch of nomadic romance are the hallmarks of this superb safari camp, which all but disappears into the surrounding African bush. Combined with unbeatable hospitality and highly knowledgeable guides, Olakira treats you to an unusually personal and authentic East African wilderness experience.
The mess and dining tents echo the style and ambience of the rooms, with panoramic views of the sprawling Serengeti plains. Spend the afternoon relaxing in an armchair in the mess area or get comfortable under the shade of the surrounding trees and simply watch the game pass by. When darkness falls, dinner is served either under canvas or beneath a glittering canopy of stars in a small clearing close by, accompanied by the night sounds of the bush.
Accommodation at Olakira Camp
Olakira’s nine tents offer a modern take on the vintage charm of East Africa. Each has a king-sized bed (twin beds are available) complete with rich linens, an under-cover veranda with comfortable chaise lounge, and ensuite bathroom and dressing area with hot-water safari bucket showers and flushing toilets.
The food is wholesome and elegantly presented. Organic produce from local farms gives every meal here fresh appeal. Depending on how hungry you are, you can choose from a lighter Continental breakfast or go for a cooked full English breakfast. At lunchtime make your choice from an appetising buffet with a selection of salads and freshly baked breads to accompany your hot main dish. Don’t fill up with too many of the tasty snacks that are served with your sundowners: dinner is a full three courses served at the table.
Experience Olakira Camp
Olakira North (June to November
)Olakira-Location - Olakira-Camp-aerial-view-serengeti-LRFrom June to November, Olakira enjoys one of the most pristine corners of the Serengeti in the tranquil Bolongoja region of the northern plains. The camp is a mere 300 metres from a crossing point at the Mara River, where herds of wildebeest plunge into the water amid the jaws of the resident Nile crocodile and hippo on their great journey north to Kenya. Olakira stands proudly in one of the best migration viewing areas in the north, and game viewing is nothing short of spectacular.
Olakira South (December to March)
From 1st December 2017 Olakira will be setting up camp at their new Southern Serengeti home at Ndutu. The new site provides not only practical improvement, as it is closer to the airstrip, but also is positioned in the heart of Ndutu’s resident game offering superlative wildlife experiences while also affording guests a spectacular camp setting amongst the dappled trees with breath-taking views of Lake Masek. In February, the plains throng with even more animals as wildebeest mothers give birth simultaneously, and hundreds of tiny wildebeest skitter and slide around the grasslands. Officially in the NCA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area), game drives cover both the NCA itself and the southern Serengeti, allowing for frequent sightings of big cats, elephant, buffalo and the more elusive African wild dog.
