Kitela lodge is a lovely new lodge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The rooms are unassuming, comfortable and clean with stunning views! Definitely great value for the area. Easy to unwind with a cool drink after exploring the crater!
Kitela Lodge has 20 beautifully appointed cottages, of which four are interconnecting family units. All cottages are en suite, with shower and bath. Fans cool the air, mosquito nets cover the beds and cozy fireplaces add a wonderful atmospheric touch.
The rooms are dotted around the garden, each one boasting spectacular views. The rooms are clean and simply furnished. Each one has its own stove for the colder nights at higher altitude. A nice start to a Tanzania safari.
The large main area is modern in design and is full of mod cons to make your stay very comfortable. It’s not the most homely of places but the food is good and locally sourced and the service is very attentive.

Things to do at Kitela Lodge
- Crater Tour: Morning depart to Ngorongoro Crater with picnic lunch. Descend into the 100-square-mile Ngorongoro Crater to view game on the vast grasslands of the crater floor.
- Excursion to Lake Eyasi - Hadzabe and Datoga Tribes: Day excursión to Lake Eyasi. The area around Lake Eyasi is home to the Hadza and Watindiga bushmen, some of the last remaining hunter-gatherers on the continent. The bushman live in groups hunting with bow and arrows and gathering roots, tubers and wild fruits. The Datoga people are farmers and craftsmen. They are more sedentary and live in groups in mud huts. They grow their own food, keep cattle and the men craft earrings, bracelets, arrow heads, etc from metal melted on an open fire using hand bellows to stoke the fire.
- Guided walks in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area: There are many trekking routes in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. In the ranger post at the entrance of the Park one can hire the service of a ranger who will escort you in one of the walks. The duration of the walks can vary from two to four hours. The most popular ones: Empakai, Olmoti Hike, to the Waterfall. Aproximately cost $ 30 to pay. Bookings and payments at Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
