Accommodation at Gibbs Farm
Gibb’s Farm is a true oasis, offering a luxurious, welcome retreat for a few days’ respite while on safari, an extended vacation or honeymoon getaway. Experience the warmth and gracious hospitality of our team, deeply rooted in East African culture and community, during your stay in one of our intimate and inviting cottages. Our historic farmhouse’s living room and dining areas, along with 17 beautifully decorated guest cottages provide an elegant, comfortable home away from home.
Each cottage is beautifully decorated to depict a theme, with artwork commissioned through the farm’s artist-in-residence program. The Mulberry Cottage is named for the lovely Mulberry trees that surround it, captured in botanical illustrations by artist Riziki Kateya. When fully ripe, the plump, deep purple fruits are used to make mulberry jam and preserves for guests. The birds also enjoy the fruits as portrayed in David Mzuguno’s painting, “Mulberries.”
Originally built in 1929, the historic farmhouse has been lovingly refurbished and offers a welcome refuge after a long day’s adventures on safari. The main farmhouse features a charming living room, two dining rooms, outside verandahs, a gazebo and gift boutique. Relax in one of the nooks and crannies with a cup of tea, enjoy the original artwork or sip wine by one of the roaring fires to unwind. Just outside the farmhouse, experience tranquility as you recline on the spacious patio surrounded by lush, soothing gardens and sweeping views of the valley.
The bright, airy dining rooms are a delightful way to begin and end each day. The rustic style of the farmhouse has been replicated throughout the dining rooms, which feature exposed trusses, adzed beams, wooden ceilings, iron work and old stone fireplaces. With soaring glass windows that frame the coffee fields and majestic distant views, the dining rooms combine an upscale, down-home decor with forest-inspired colors to create a cozy, elegant setting.

Healthy, farm fresh cuisine and attentive, gracious hospitality defines the iconic nature of the dining experience at Gibb’s Farm. Our organic farm-to-table cuisine stimulates the senses and provides sustenance to restore, replenish and energize. Garden grown organic vegetables and locally raised meats, farm-fresh milk, cream and baked goods provide the healthy, nutritious ingredients for our sumptuous breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.
Start your day with organic Arabica coffee, grown and roasted right on the farm and a hearty farm breakfast. Mid-day, a farmhouse buffet offers a delectable array of foods to re-energize you, and in the afternoon, enjoy high tea in the garden with a delicious assortment of coffees, teas, fresh cream and scones. In the evening, candle-lit dinners feature Chef de Cuisine Lisa Campbell’s English and Tanzanian-influenced cuisine and the opportunity to share the day’s experiences.
Gibb’s Farm is a model for sustainable, environmentally-respectful practices, continuing the legacy of founders Margaret and Jim Gibb. The farm has won numerous awards, including the Tanzania Tourist Board’s 2011 Sustainable Tourism Award, Condé Nast Traveler magazine’s World Savers Award and the Educational Travel Community’s Responsible Tourism Award.
Operation of the entire organic farm—consisting of 30 acres of coffee, 10 acres of vegetables and fruit, 5 acres of flowers and herbs and a working dairy and pig farm—is based upon sustainable farming methods. Everything is grown organically using only natural fertilizer and compost from the farm. Insect-repellant plants help to manage pests, rather than harmful pesticides. Reclaimed water is used whenever possible, and all buildings and furniture are built onsite using local materials and local labor.
