Mila Tented Camp occupies a prime, game-rich position in the western corridor of the Serengeti in Tanzania. The camp is surrounded by acacia trees, massive granite boulders and five natural springs that flow into the camp, attracting wildlife to drink throughout the day. It is also possible to witness the traditional migration of animals to different watering holes and grazing grounds from the privacy of your own tented suite. The Serengeti is the scene of mass wildebeest calving during the beginning of the year, along with plenty of predator action.

Due to its stunning position at the top of a granite ridge, Mila Tented Camp has breath-taking views of the springs, the surrounding woodland landscape and the Serengeti. Each of the eight tented suites is fitted with a king-sized or twin beds, and has a private en suite bathroom and veranda. The tent walls are opened during the day to allow for game viewing and birding from the comfort of your plush bed.

An intimate luxury tented camp, with only five tented rooms and one family suite, Mila’s layout is generously spaced to further amplify the sense of seclusion afforded by its remote setting.

Each tent is a sanctuary where the romance of a vintage safari is brought to life through billowing linen, brass fixtures and earthy tones that echo the colors of the wilderness that envelops you. Positioned to gaze out over the plains, each tented room prioritizes comfort, with palatial beds and rainfall showers that invite ample opportunity to unwind after an action-packed day.

The five tented rooms are constructed of canvas with mesh panelling and roll-away windows. At their centre are four-poster beds, made up with pretty linens. Velvet curtains and reed-woven floor rugs contrast for a rustic yet elegant feel. En-suite bathrooms have double basins and, behind a partition, showers and flush toilets. The sixth (family) tent is an extended version of these with shared bathrooms. It's possible to be in nature but not of it.

After a day of walking in the bush or game viewing in the 4×4, dinner next to the campfire and under the stars is a definite highlight. The food is delicious, locally sourced and fresh. Breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as tea and drinks are offered in lovely locations in the reserve. Private dinners can also be arranged on request, with fine wines and imported liqueurs available as well.

There are no fences and definitely no barriers for wildlife and it's not uncommon for everything from buck to elephant to lion to come wandering in. There's a living area with plush sofas, plenty of comfortable chairs and a small library and two dining tents with long tables, which flicker with candles by night. Outside is the campfire, surrounded by canvas chairs, where many a drink is sipped and story recounted.
