Stay at Angama Mara Camp
Angama Mara sits at the very heart of all safaris within East Africa: to the north Samburu, Mount Kenya and Laikipia; to the east Tsavo, Amboseli and Kenya’s acclaimed coastline; to the south Tanzania’s northern circuit which includes the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Manyara and Zanzibar; and to the west mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. Angama Safaris will seamlessly plan and execute your travels through the best the region has to offer.
There is also much to experience in and around the lodge: Angama Mara’s Safari Shop offers guests the opportunity to browse through a curated selection of Kenyan and African jewelry, fashion, artifacts and literature. Leading off from the shop is a Maasai craft studio, where guests can try their hand at beading or even perhaps have Maasai ladies bead a bespoke item onto their clothing. This is the perfect place for children to pass a few hours.
At Angama Mara Camp
The lodge consists of two totally separate and intimate camps, each with a guest area sitting atop one of the kopje’s. Inspired by the old-world atmosphere of Nairobi’s famous Muthaiga Club, guests can dine, read, relax, and enjoy a drink in a place where indoors and outdoors merge into one. The architecture is filled with drama, the red brickwork inspired by local Maasai techniques.
Guests are accommodated in spacious Tented Suites, which have been designed for guests’ comfort and are reminiscent of a classical African safari, each with a view more lovely than the last. Every detail has been considered: end-to-end glass frontage, sweeping canvas, decks overhanging the Mara, and inside – polished parquet floors and just the right amount of furniture.
For those wanting to take things a little easier, a masseuse offers full-body massages on the tent’s deck; or indulge in a rocking chair safari – each tent has two comfy bright red rocking chairs, from which you can enjoy the parade of wildlife in the Mara spread out below. In the guest areas, there is a lovely stand-alone library offering a carefully curated selection of Africana literature and film. Both the tented suites and the library, with its fireplace, leather sofa and refectory table are covered by a high-speed WiFi network.
At ANgama Mara Camp
Guests staying at Angama Mara are faced with many choices of how they wish to spend their day. Sunrise hot-air balloon safaris, photographing Africa’s abundant wildlife, walking on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, or visiting a Maasai family in their home – these are just a few of the adventures on offer.
Discover Africa's Great Game
The Maasai Mara never fails to deliver extraordinary wildlife sightings: prides of lion, solitary leopards, the shy black rhino and abundant herds of elephant and buffalo are all to be found here in and amongst bountiful plains game. Head out at sunrise with a picnic breakfast and be back for lunch; head out after breakfast with a picnic lunch; or a favourite, pack two picnics and spend the whole day exploring the Mara.
Hot Air Balloon Safaris
Wake up before dawn and fly over the Maasai Mara at first light, viewing Africa’s animals as you silently float above and past them – an experience for which the Mara is famous. Guests have a choice of two of the most renowned balloon operators in Kenya, both a short drive from the lodge, who offer the opportunity to follow the course of the Mara River, and land in the middle of the plains beyond
